F/Sgt Arthur Robson Meredith S/N

F/Sgt Arthur Robson Meredith was a Canadian airman and
flew onboard a RAF Lancaster that crashed
near La Frenaye, Seine Maritime on August 7, 1944. He was immediately
assisted by a local farmer who help him burn his chute and then hidden in a
farm in Triquerville until the liberation.
Three airmen of the same aircraft died in the crash and
now rest in peace in
La Frenaye cemetery.

"We left SKELLINGTHORPE in a Lancaster aircraft
at 2200 hrs on 7 Aug 44. I baled out at 2359 hrs and landed on the side of a
hill. I walked to the nearest farm and together with the farmer, I burnt my
parachute, mae vest etc. An hour later, some Frenchmen took me to a farm at
TRIQUERVILLE, where I stayed for three weeks. I then decided to try to
contact the English who were very close. I walked towards the Seine and got
in touch with a Netherlands war correspondent who took me to his patrol. I
crossed the SEINE with them and contacted the 49th Div. Intelligence office
who sent me back. " |

Ernie Manning also too part in the Secqueville raid and
provided the following information:
"Meredith landed at Touffreville La Câble (2km east of
La Frenaye) and was met by two youngster. The elder, took him to Mr Dumez at
Triquerville who hid him until the arrival of the allies. During this time
he turned
out for the village football team against the Germans. On his return to
England, he was commissioned and posted back to Canada."
