Escape report James Arnold Palfrey

British paratrooper James Arnold Palfrey was dropped over Normandy on 6 June 1944. He was helped by the French and returned to the UK on 25 August.

"I came down near TROUVILLE (FRANCE, 1:250,000, Sheet 8, L4513). I made no French contacts till the second day. I was then chased by Gestapo and rescued by a French farmer who hid me first in a ditch and then in a loft. I stayed in this farm till about 6 Jul, when a member of the resistance movement fetched me and took me to the BLONVILLE (L 4208), where I met Pte Matthews. We stayed in BLONVILLE till about 16 Jul, when we were moved to ST PIERRE AZIF (L 4205) where we stayed till 21 Aug

On 7 Aug we met Bdr LUGGAR and Tel T/O PETERS."
